ALTERED is an action-packed ride with wild powers and even wilder creativity. Blake creates a cast of strong characters who lose everything and gain superhuman powers. The varied personalities and powers kept me hooked. I loved both the action sequences and places where powers like telepathy could add insight. ALTERED is a fabulous example of a book with paranormal elements that not only create a framework for the action but are essential in the characters’ arcs.The romance between flower-child, Blue and soldier, Seth was fun to watch unfold as they and their friends work to escape the evil organization, Goldstone—a security firm whose intentions are darker than Blue or any of her friends could imagine.
As the story unfolds, more members join Blue and Seth. My favorite was Kitty—her telepathic powers and naiveté fun to watch spark against the other characters. Who’s your fav. ALTERED character?

Marnee Blake’s action-packed debut is a thrill ride in book form! Altered has all the elements I love in a novel — fast pace, strong lead characters on the run, a dash of romance, and a conspiracy theory. In between the intense action scenes are some tender moments that show the vulnerabilities of the heroine and hero (Blue and Seth) as they deal with their newly ‘altered’ selves. This is one story I seriously could not put down.
This is a great introduction to a new series. Based on some survivors of a horrible event in a town called Glory. The main characters of Blue and Seth are featured in this book. There are some secondary characters that are also worthy of their own books. It is a fast paced action book. I don't want to spoil it by giving too much detail, I went int blind and really enjoyed it.
I really loved this one! This book is VERY fast moving. The plot is unique, and the characters are relatable and interesting - you want to be in the story with them. There's plenty of action and suspense (along with some romance, of course!). In short, be sure to set aside at least a few hours to read this book, since you won't be able to put it down after you start it!
When Altered downloaded on my last night, I thought I’d start to read a bit of it before bed. I got so sucked into the story and Marnee Blake’s writing that I was up for hours to read it right to the end. Altered is a page-turner and the first book in a series. If you like romances filled with action and suspense, and a Science Fiction storyline, you should buy this book. The two main characters are really likeable and the chemistry between them is off the charts. There is great sexual tension between Seth and Blue throughout the book, even though there are no explicit sex scenes. It was so obvious these two people are really meant for each other! I give 5 stars to books that I would read again, and this is a book that I know I will reread at some point. I can’t wait to find outhe next book in this series.
This was a great start to the plot. I see all of these people have been infected and we see how each of them deals with it. I liked this couple they were very in sync with everything. I liked that they worked together and he didn't just take charge. I don't like that the next 2 books are on different couples.
A strong debut novel by an author whose next book I eagerly await. A group of twenty-somethings survive a violent illness, only to find themselves in possession of strange new powers. Fortunately, one of the survivors is a tough (and sexy!) soldier who helps the group dodge the mercenaries trying to round them up. The characters are all interesting and well-drawn; the dynamics of the group make for lots of great drama. Uncovering the mystery of how they acquired their powers while learning to use those powers to evade capture combine for a compelling plot. I zipped right through this book.
The tagline of this novel is When “normal” ends, survival begins.” Yeah, no s*&t!!
ALTERED was an intense book with action and twists around every corner. We're dropped into the action immediately - which I LOVE, because I'm bored my pages and pages of backstory set up. The eerie tone hooked me from the start, as I love a great sci-fi book, especially one with an apocalyptic vibe.
I loved Seth and Blue. I loved their chemistry. I’m usually a skim-over-sex-scenes kind of reader, so I wasn’t disappointed in **spoiler*** no sex. It would have had to be slam-bam-thank-you-ma’am to fit the fast pace of this book. And that’s only sexy in certain situations, not budding love. And Seth, come on. A dude who stops in a town on his way back Special Ops training? That spells bad ass hottie in my language.
Overall I was surprised by how different this book was from what I was expecting. The blurb pulled me in, but didn’t set me up for what the story really was. I liked that surprise. I read it in one night because there is nowhere to stop. Although, maybe I say that about all books I love! ) But seriously. It flies by.
My only “complaint”…not having book 2!!! I NEED IT. )
